New T60, help me enjoy it more

Few things, some of these can probably be fixed, some perhaps can't.

1. Smoother scrolling in windows and folders. Everything is super choppy and goes very fast. Barely move your finger and its at the bottom of the bar. Scrolling speed has been reduced, but it still isnt where I like it. I have a Lenovo C100 with the same synaptics brand pad and software, and its smooth as can be. Very precise too.

2. Various high pitched noises from around the lan port. Some of these I am guessing to be crystals or something that are not dampened correctly, but has anyone actually figured out what part is making this sound? Happens during scrolling, heavy intermittent cpu spiking, etc. Power management is disabled, but the noise is still there.

3. Making a cleaner, faster windows environment. Since my machine came with WinXP pro, I would like to keep that install since it is actually worth something. Normally I use my own personal copy, start fresh and go from there. This I can't really get it as fresh and nice. I tried the custom factory restore, but it still installed tons of extra crap that I dont want. Anyone have any luck with extra programs that really clean out the system to a bare install?

4. Someone practice some voodoo and make my Chicony keyboard turn into a ALPS or NMB please. :( Lenovo won't swap it, and calling the parts department they cant even pull up a part when I give the the part numbers out of the hardware manual to buy it myself! It types fine, but its so [censored] clackity.

5. Some way to disable hypermemory, either a BIOS trick, software trick or something.

Its a part of the ATI video card system that expands into system memory for the video card. It can get buggy at times, and I would just be happy with the 128meg that is on the thing dedicated.

What cases does it get buggy in? I haven't heard about those.

Also, from what I have seen, there really doesn't appear to be a direct way to disable it. It seems to be part of the latest drivers although I am not entirely sure about that.

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

Finally solved the jerky window scrolling. I ended up removing the Lenovo Synaptics software, and installing the latest version directly from Synaptics. Buttery smooth scrolling now. So happy :)

I just tried the Synaptics driver and it does indeed work smoother. Thanks :)
