Is the quality of my NEW T43p OK? (wobbly lid)

#1 Post by DarkMark » Thu Dec 14, 2006 6:54 pm

Hello!

I just bought my first ThinkPad, hoping to get a solid high quality maschine.

Apart from the loud fan ( from wich I already knew via this forum), my only issue is that the left latch might not be holding the lid down as it should.
The right side (with the puschbutton to release it) rests firmly on the chassis not moving at all even with force aplied.
The left side on the other hand seems a bit wobbbly. It doesn`t shut right resulting in a play of around one mm that it can be pushed.

My question therefore is: Should I accept this?
Could someone give me a reference if this is normal or what I should expect?

I need to know if I should send it in/ back.

Thanks!

Welcome to the Thinkpad Forum :)

I have seen that as something that varies on some T4X Series Thinkpads and, in general, it isn't something that I would worry about as it doesn't affect anything else nor is it an indicator that the screen is warped.

If you wanted, you could call up IBM/Lenovo and see what your options are, but I can tell you that, if they think it is a significant problem, you will have to ship it to the nearest repair depot for them to take a look at and try to tweak. Which means you won't have it for a little while and, err, "other problems" might be incurred from unnecessary work being done on it.

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

Thanks for the fast answer.

Just as you wrote, I was worried about sending in a brand new TP and getting one back in a worse contition. As long as it doesn`t affect anything I´ll just put up with it.

I`d still be interrested in other peoples experience.

1 mm of leeway sounds acceptable to me. I have owned many laptops (including Thinkpads) with lids like that.

Dell OptiPlex 9010 SFF (Core i3-3220 / 8GB / 8TB); HP 8300 Elite minitower (Core i7-3770 / 16GB / 9.25TB)
