The local sales guys swear the above is true?

I think it is 1,400x1,050 - am I right?

Right now there's some great deals on T43s.

A quick glance through the tabook.pdf file from IBM/Lenovo says that all T43/T43p systems were available with 1024x768 (XGA), 1400x1050 (SXGA+) or 1600x1200 (UXGA). I don't see anything with 1280x1024 (SXGA). If this is correct, then your "sales guy" is probably confusing SXGA with SXGA+. As I don't have a T4x system, this is all I can go by at the moment.

I should note that the graphics system can support SXGA mode, but only on an external monitor. I'm assuming you are talking about the LCD panel options available from the factory.

There is no extant T4X Series Thinkpad that has a screen resolution of just SXGA; as like Ray, I am pretty sure that he means SXGA+ as it is common to just drop the '+' from it unintentionally. :)

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.

Bet the sales guy that it isn't true and save some money on your T43. It's just not true.

I don't know of any extant laptop (Thinkpads and non) with 1280x1024. The 1951-A38 T60 is shown to have such a native resolution on Lenovo, but that's almost certainly a typo.

True, I've never heard of such a native resolution for a laptop - only LCD displays.

IBM ThinkPad 770z, had a 1280x1024 (13.7") display.
Microstar, some Quanta had them.

This format is from the computer jurassic age (1999), not produced anymore.
