Unistalling SONIC

#1 Post by venik » Fri Dec 15, 2006 9:56 am

I wanted to uninstalled SONIC and RECORD NOW. In the Add/remove programs, the option to uninstall it is not available. How do I uninstall it?

On my T42, the Sonic software is listed under Sonic ***** in Add or Remove Programs.

If you are still having problems, get something like CCleaner or System Mechanic which have pretty comprhensive Uninstaller list; more so than the Add/Remove Programs CPL which can fail to pick things up from time to time...so they can be far more reliable even when the registry references for the A/RP CPL get blown away (a la PC-Doctor 5 silent install). :)

I find it infuriating that Lenovo loads up the machine with stuff that cannot be removed in the normal way....

You are wrong about that. Your system is corrupted in some way.

If you downloaded the PC Doctor 5 update that came out in late October of this year, that may be why you are not seeing Sonic in Add or Remove Programs. As CW stated, the installer created problems on some machines. I understand that the PC Doctor people have since fixed the installer so that it no longer creates this problem. BTW, PC Doctor is 3rd party software. Lenovo gives it to us, just like they give us WinDVD. It is one of the benefits of buying a ThinkPad (usually).

To repair the PC Doctor 5 update problem, either restore a full backup made before the update occurred or use Windows System Restore in SAFE MODE to bring the system state back to a previous state before the PC Doctor 5 update problem. To see if this could possibly be your problem, go to Start > All Programs, and see if PC-Doctor 5 for Windows is listed. If you only see PC-Doctor 4 for Windows, then something else has caused your problem.

Are you logged in as a limited user? You need to have administrative privileges to see the "Remove" button.

I am the administrator.
I could not find an update for PC Doctor 5, which is what I have.

This might not be related, but when I start my computer, I see two black windows with tiny writing on them that look as if they have some diagnostic info in them.. I also have, in C:\ several files that look like they are log files from msiexec.exe
These are new behaviors, that started after a recent "update" from the Software installer, another Lenovo/IBM abomination, which does not even know how to get the newest versions of the programs it is supposed to keep uptodate.

Those are the DOS commandline windows, check the event viewer to see what is actually triggering those.

I understand you to say that you have PC-Doctor 5 for Windows installed. It sounds to me like you got hit with the PC-Doctor 5 upgrade install problem. It also happened to me. See following thread for more info.

If the PCD5 issue is indeed the case, uninstalling with something like CCleaner should do the trick.
