Performance score

#1 Post by astpaul » Fri Dec 15, 2006 6:52 pm

Hi
I own a 2007-94U (T60 2.16Ghz) and went accross the Performance Score of Vista.

My readings are:
- Processor : 4.5
- RAM: 4.9
- Graphics: 4.2
- Gaming: 4.6
- HDD: 5.0

As Graphics is the lowest and that I am currently using standard drivers I was wondering if by using the ones released by Lenovo, one would get a better performance score.
Any experience?

I'm getting a 4.3 due to graphics as well, running the beta lenovo drivers on my t60p.

I don't know what you mean by "standard drivers" but it's easy enough to give it a try. 4.2 is plenty high anyway.

I meant the ones provided in the Vista distrib.
You know one always tries to optimize :)

It seems that using Lenovo's drivers enhances the score a little bit.

So you tried it already? What's the new score?

low rating from Vista

#6 Post by sjoerd » Thu Dec 21, 2006 4:24 pm

I did this as well with a desktop computer
video performance killed the score, why ?

my matrox 650 as well as laptop graphics cards, how good they are, are no high gamers cards with 512MB (not shared) and processor with cooling fan.
in laptops you can have the most fancy high end grphics cards but at a lower clockspeed. how can they keep them cool ?
do not use the full speed.
I think that this is the reason for the low score.

I just found this on a Microsoft site concerning the graphics score:

between 3 and 4: runs Aero well
between 4 and 5: plays HD video well
5 and above: "great for all key windows Vista scenarios"

From another Microsoft site:

• A computer with a base score of 1 or 2 usually has sufficient performance to do most general computing tasks, such as run office productivity applications and search the Internet. However, a computer with this base score is generally not powerful enough to run Windows Aero, or the advanced multimedia experiences that are available with Windows Vista.

• A computer with a base score of 3 is able to run Windows Aero and many new features of Windows Vista at a basic level. Some of the new Windows Vista advanced features might not have all of their functionality available. For example, a machine with a base score of 3 can display the Windows Vista theme at a resolution of 1280 × 1024, but might struggle to run the theme on multiple monitors. Or, it can play digital TV content but might struggle to play High Definition Television (HDTV) content.

• A computer with a base score of 4 or 5 is able to run all new features of Windows Vista with full functionality, and it is able to support high-end, graphics-intensive experiences, such as multiplayer and 3‑D gaming and recording and playback of HDTV content. Computers with a base score of 5 were the highest performing computers available when Windows Vista was released.

I have a T60p with 256MB ATI FireGL V5200, graphic score only 4.2, the lowest one in all. I don't know how to improve it, since it is already the highend card.
T60p 2613-ENU: 2.13GHz, 2.0GB DDR2, 100GB 7200rpm, DVDRW, 15''IPS, 9-cell;
T40 2373-94U: 1.6 GHz, 1.0GB, 80GB 4200rpm, CDRW/DVD, 14'', 9-cell.

That probably means that at present, there isn't a single Thinkpad that's fully Vista capable.

These are just laptops after all, not custom built gaming rigs. I don't think 4.2 is all bad. My X300 only got a 2.x when I had RC1 on.

z60m 3.6 Determined by lowest subscore

Processor Intel(R) Pentium(R) M processor 2.00GHz 3.9

Memory (RAM) 1.50 GB 4.4

Graphics MOBILITY RADEON X600 (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM) 3.7

Gaming graphics 639 MB Total available graphics memory 3.6

Primary hard disk 14GB Free (89GB Total) 4.2

So X600 is weakest link. I'm not using the ATi Beta drivers yet, although Microsoft did update their drivers which fixed a few crashes the other day. When ATi drivers go non-beta I may give them ago as that may offer better graphics performance.

VISTA Performance Score for:

Thinkpad T60p 2613-HKU
2.0ghz T7200
ATI x1400 128mb
2gb RAM (dual channel)
7K100 80gb 7200rpm HD

Processor: 4.9 :D
Memory: 4.5 :(
Graphics: 4.6 :D
Gaming Graphics: 4.0 :D
Primary Hard Disk: 4.6 :(

Does anybody knows why the Memory score is low with 2.0gb dual-channel memory? I expect a Memory score of 4.9 for a T60p with my specs.

Also, does anyone know if the Ultrabay SATA is slower than the built-in SATA port? That would explain the low HDD score (I expect a score of 5.1). BTW, I run my primary partition off the Ultrabay SATA adapter. Thanks in advance.

Thinkpad T60p 2613-HKU, 2.0ghz T7200, 14.1 SXGA+ BOE-Hydis LCD, Bluetooth 2.0, 2gb RAM (dual-channel), DVD+R, 7K100 80gb 7200rpm HD, Thinkpad Wi-Fi ABG, ATI x1400 128mb, 6 cell battery
