IBM/Lenovo contracts their MPCI cards. Some are actually Intel some Atheros, some are Phillip, Actiontec etc. You get the idea.
Family Daily Drivers- T430s, T530, X220
Work- Sadly, the ThinkPads have gone away...... and replaced by HP ProDesk SFF drone machines :(
Other Projects- Edge 15, Z61m (Titanium)
Historic Retired ThinkPads- T42p, X20, A31p, 701c, 760XD, WorkPad C505

Some prefer the Atheros cards, the majority of the later "Thinkpad/IBM" wireless cards that aren't Intel, and some like the Intel. The Intel has been pretty good for me with excellent range and reception. I have also used the Atheros cards without incident either. To me, it really doesn't make a difference as long as they are set up correctly.

I met someone who looks a lot like you.
She does the things you do.
But she is an IBM.
