Z61t - dual external monitors

#1 Post by JamesTX » Sun Dec 17, 2006 10:41 pm

I just bought a Z61t and an Advanced Docking Station. The z61 has the Intel video chipset, not the ATI card. I want to run dual external monitors when it's docked. I've received conflicting advice from IBM tech support, so I was hoping someone here could help.

First, I was told that I could run two external monitors since the docking station had two outputs - VGA and DVI-D. But I couldn't get this to work. Next, I was told that I'd have to get a card for the PCI-E slot in the docking station. I've seen some people here on the boards do this, but not with a Z61t.

So, my questions -

1) Is there any way to get dual external monitors to work without buying a video card?

2) If the answer to #1 is no, then will installing a card in the docking station work?

Thanks.
James

One reason I'm confused is that - if my notebook is docked, but no external monitors hooked up - I can set up a scheme in presentation manager that specifies to use two external monitors and not to use the notebook monitor. But if I hook up the monitors it doesn't work.

I seem to remember a thread about this recently. I think people were having trouble with intel 950GM and DVI output. Maybe you can get a card with dual VGA outputs for the 1x PCI Express slot in the Advanced Dock.

lets see..

Thanks C+:

I was also reading this thread - http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... 58&start=0. I assume that the solutions they were working with would be applicable to the Z61t also.
