X30 : How to diagnose PCMCIA slot.

#1 Post by dainova » Sun Dec 17, 2006 11:18 pm

I have fresh XP’Pro install from retail CD on X30 and found that my PCMCIA slot doesn’t work, I plug a wireless card and no detection happened, like on other laptops with the very same card.
Driver in device manager looks OK without exclamation mars, it says:
RICOH R/RL/5C476(II) or compactable cardbus controllers.

Anybody can suggest way to check what could be wrong ?

Run PC-Doctor. Also, try plugging that same wireless card into another laptop to make sure it's not the card that's malfunctioning.

Update:
Future test shows that when I plug in card in device manager it comes under:
Other Devices/Ethernet cotroller with ??? mark, so probably it matter of right driver.
Still anybody can suggest right driver ? On www there is no driver for that.
Or I have to go with IBM restore CD?

Ah, that makes more sense. You need to go to the wireless card's manufacturer site or www.driverguide.com to get the driver.

Thanks, painowizard

Case solved,

** one more ??
I'm thinking to get X31 which is <Wi-Fi upgradable>, does it mean that I need only compatable miniPCI (b,g) to make it run.

Tx all

I have a couple of the IBM wireless cards lying around in a drawer somewhere (a "b" and a separate "B/G") I'd sell for nominal cost. They both worked fine when pulled (one of them was pulled when I upgraded a B to a b/g, and the other with my X31 I damaged in a screen spill accident; since I sold that one for parts on ebay, I removed all the added components since I didn't think I'd get anymore for the machine no matter what was in it).

If you need one, let me know.
