Color quality (depth)

#1 Post by !Blob! » Mon Dec 18, 2006 9:03 am

Hello,

My 1.5-year-old R50e motherboard decided to die, and I quickly bought R60e as a replacement (it was 2 weeks ago). Now I'm left with no cash left for christmas and a new notebook. And - unfortunately - one thing that is bugging me.

I have w2k installed (instead of xp which I hate). In "Screen Properties" (or whatever it's called in English) I've set 32-bit "True color" depth. Below the dropdown list there is a gradient color bar showing... well, the colors. ;] But this bar isn't smooth. It's exactly the same as when I change to 16-bit depth. Intel GMA driver also shows 32-bit setting, but I can't see the difference between 16 and 32.

My friend also bought R60e but he is using preinstalled windows xp, and there's the same story.

So - am I blind and it is really the 32-bit true color (and I have to stop looking at buggy windows color bar), or it's something with the drivers / LCD?

Is there any utility to test the color depth?
