Recording/burner device or RecordNow CD/software for T22?
Recording/burner device or RecordNow CD/software for T22?
Looking for advice or info on Recording/burner device or RecordNow CD/software for T22. Bought T22 with DVD player bay drive but no CD burner.
Just bought CD-RW/DVD Ultrabay Drive and still can't burn CD's or record data.
How do I get this and/or can I install it in my T22? If not, does anyone have any suggestions on how to get my CD-RW/DVD to work another way?
Thanks
Rikki

Right, you need to buy and install a record software for your device. The RecordNow by Roxio is pretty good, we use that at work on our PC CD-RW's, very easy to use. I am getting a CD-RW/DVD drive soon and plan to by the RecordNow software myself. Same thing happened when I got this T22, my drive is a CD/DVD but it had no DVD decoder installed. I bought WINDVD and downloaded it and it installed itself in Windows Media Player and I now can watch DVD's. Good luck
edited: here is the link to Roxio's CD burning suites, but I am sure you could use older versions just as easily:

Re: Recording/burner device or RecordNow CD/software for T22
Once the burning functionality is recognized by XP, which should be automatic when you 1) install/insert the UltraBay device, 2) wait for the drivers to load, and 3) wait for XP to notify you that "Your device is installed and ready to use", you can use XP's built-in CD-recording ability, or as Purcy says, opt for Roxio's offerings, or Nero, or freeware stuff like CDBurnerXP Pro.

Well Musti, thanks for that. I did not know XP had a burner program, I guess I wouldn't find it as I don't have a drive yet. Is there somewhere I can see the program now, or is it part of the plug-n-play process that sets it up?

Normally a CD/DVD Burner is automatically recognized. Then you insert a blank CD or DVD depending on your drive, drag and drop stuff onto it in Windows Explorer, and select Burn these files on CD from tasks or File menu. CD Burning Wizard opens up and guides you.Purcy wrote:Well Musti, thanks for that. I did not know XP had a burner program, I guess I wouldn't find it as I don't have a drive yet. It is built-in so you cannot actually access it unless you're really burning stuff...In a quest to make it easier for users, MS treats the burnable CD as a pseudo-folder, and whatever you drag and drop there in fact gets copied to a temporary folder in your profile folder. The stuff to be burned look ghosted, their icons are slightly dim, and they have an arrow overlay, meaning they are awaiting burn.

Yes, I remember that same thing on my old PC that had a built in CD burner, now lives in my husband's office. That sure was easy, so I guess I won't need to buy software, just the drive.

Doh! I forgot to add helpful info.........
Hi All,
Uh, Ok, ya lost me after the first reply and I forgot a thing or two.....My T22 came with a DVD player and the software was already installed. Also, I have Windows 98 SE. I can only assume that this changes things since Windows XP is mentioned.
I've also been checking around but am still confused as to how to tell what brand of RecordNow software can be installed in my T22. There's alot of RecordNow only for Dell. Are there any other brands that I can use?
I found this one on Ebay:Item #280062458584
Description:
"This is a brand new never opened Sonic RecordNow 7.3 Deluxe Full Version CD from Dell computers. P/N D8506 Rev. A00. It will install on any computer."
Would this one be compatible?
Sorry to be so clueless but I am a rookie at all of this and I really appreciate the help.
Thanks!

Yes, those are software that Dell gives to people buying Dell computers since they give you the CD's for any program installed on the computer. At work they gave my boss a CD for WordPerfect since it was installed on his Dell desktops and I have since installed it on my T22 and it works just perfect. Of course, I am running XP Prof., I checked and vers 7.3 RecordNow is supported by Windows 98, but check out this article first on OEM software (software that comes with your computer bundle) as it looks like those CD's on eBay may not be as full product as the same vers on the retail market (scroll down to Roxio):

I'm still confused but not as much. Still doing research! Good article anyway!
Thanks again!
