Vista is up. Questions on bluetooth, wifi, and function btns

#1 Post by dandiep » Wed Dec 20, 2006 2:28 pm

Hi All,

I got Vista installed on my new T60 and it works excellent. I have all the latest drivers and thinkvantage installed. The one exception is that the verizon driver that was posted a few days ago is a little flakey. However, if I just turn it off and back on it continues working.

I have a few questions though.

1. Is there a way to turn off just wifi & bluetooth while leaving on my verizon card?

2. Is there a way to control the mapping of the function buttons? For some reason the hibernate mapping (Fn+F12) doesn't seem to be working correctly. Also I'd like to remap Fn+Up to Page Up and Fn+Down to Page Down if possible.

3. Bluetooth doesn't seem to be working correctly. I have a bluetooth icon in my tray, but it has the red B. Anyone know how to get it working (or if it does)?

I don't know the answer to your 1st question, but for 2, I believe that current version of keyboard customizer utilities (for XP) still works in VISTA (to some extent). I installed it, but didn't really see if I need that since that's already a "windows" key on the keyboard. However, I did notice that Fn + some keys didn't work in VISTA. I don't think that's because it's imcompatible with VISTA, since Fn+F5 still pops out the wireless connection on/off menu. Fn+F9 still pops out something, saying that it required the Easy Eject, which doesn't work in VISTA. Therefore, I believe that those power option related issues are due to the lack of the TVT Power Manager in VISTA.

For the 3rd problem, I did have the bluetooth work on my machine. Actually I installed the XP bluetooth driver, but found that I don't need to do that and removed it. If VISTA the built-in driver doesn't work, try installing the TVT one and then remove it later.

Thanks for the tip on #2.

Regarding #3 - what is the bluetooth driver in your device manager? I have "Thinkpad bluetooth with Enhanced Data Rate".

I see that I'm getting two bluetooth icons in my system tray now. One is the microsoft stack (which is red) and the other seems to be what came with XP maybe (it is white and enabled)?

Did you go for a clean install or was it just an upgrade, since you're telling that you have all thinkvantage?

As far as i've experienced. On my T60 bluetooth was working out of the box with vista stock drivers. I've installed the lenovo hotkey features but still have no wifi with Fn+F5 as i don't have any access to EasyEject with Fn+F9. This is due to the fact that the wifi drivers and and EasyEject Utils are lenovo customized apps.

Still have to wait for lenovo to get up with the latest vista drivers.

I didn't do a clean install.

I may try deleting the Lenovo Bluetooth drivers and see if Vista picks it up correctly. Anyone else done that?
