Click Start, Control Panel, Performance and Maintenance, System.

Click the Advanced tab on the System properties and then under Startup and Recovery click Settings.

Under System Failure click the check mark next to Automatically Restart to turn it off, then Ok out of the Advanced Settings and the System properties.

Next time it blue screens it will stop and show you the error. Write down the entire error message especially - the 0x00 error number and the perameters after the error in the brackets.

Then go here http://aumha.org/win5/kbestop.htm and lookup the error.

Since you say it happens during backup a couple thoughts...

1. If you are backing up to a USB or Ultrabay device make sure you have the latest drivers for the device.

2. If you are have IBM rescue and recovery (used to be Rapid Restore) installed and are using MS Backup there was an issue a while back with RR blue screening during MS Backup if Volume Shadow Copy was enabled. Try disabling Volume Shadow Copy or updating your version of RR.

If you are still stumped post exactly how you are doing the backup - software and hardware used, where you are in the process when it fails, etc. along with the exact stop error and parameters and I'll try to help.
