help: new 7k100 makes low beeping on bootup

#1 Post by skanky » Thu Dec 21, 2006 2:53 am

just got a new 7k100 to replace a imo dying 7k60 in my T42, however i've noticed when booting up (at the "IBM THINKPAD") splash screen, the new hdd makes 2 low beeping noises (lasts for about a second) then gets on with the job booting up.

it doesnt make any more sounds like that past that point, whereas the old one didnt do this at all.

any ideas how to stop this/turn the beeps off? or even what it is, i checked the hitachi drive tool and the accoustic settings are the same as the old drive.

help please!

Looking at the Hardware Maintenance Manual, it says the following:

POST error. See “Numeric error codes” on page 58.
Since the Numeric error codes are too many to list here, I suggest you download the Hardware Maintenance Manual and check for yourself. Hardware Maintenance Manual - ThinkPad T40/p, T41/p, T42/p

You may just need to go into the BIOS and set the defaults or change a setting.
