Battery Question: 3200 v 4400 mAH

#1 Post by Nigellus » Thu Dec 21, 2006 12:12 pm

I need a new battery for my brother's 600E. In my shopping I have noticed that, while assuring FRU compatibility, all of the batteries I have been able to find have slightly different specs than the old battery. Both batteries are 10.8V. However, the old battery is 3200 mAH and the new one would be 4400 mAH. Is this okay? I know next to nothing about how electricity actually works.

The higher capacity battery will simply allow you, in theory, to run the laptop a little bit longer. I say "in theory" because you are trusting the battery seller that the specs are correct/true. I would say that you can mostly trust them since over the years, battery technology has improved somewhat, allowing them to pack more "juice" into the same amount of space. What you now have to watch out for are SONY Li-Ion batteries. As you may be aware, there is a recall currently being run on those batteries as they have a tendancy to go "bang".

Thanks, Ray. That's what I thought, but I like to double check everything.

You may want to consider batteryrefill.com of Ontario, California. I learned about them from some members of this forum.

I ordered a refilled battery for my T23. There was a glitch in their ordering process which made my order late. When I brought it to their attention, they admitted their error and promised me my refilled IBM battery pack this week. I received it this AM (Friday). It cost them nearly $15 postage to get it to me fast. I am impressed as they charge only $10 for two way shipping- ship you a refilled battery & postage label to ship your "dead" battery to them.

They refill your pack with higher mAh (longer lasting cells). My battery was nearly full charge. Only took 20 minutes for full charge. I have the T23 on safe mode to bypass battery management. It has been on 2 hours and its still running.

If they do not have your brother's battery already refilled, you can send it in for them to refill with higher mAh cells. You get a 30 day guarantee.

Total charge for T20 series new cells & 2-way shipping? $62.
I recommend batteryrefill myself now.

That seems to be their MO. I sent my TransNote battery to them on November 6th, waited a month, then followed up on its status. It arrived a week later.

You may also want to check this thread were I posted some info on batteryrefill.com and an eBay seller I recently found (thanks Purcy!), xreplay or getgoingstores (same seller, two different eBay IDs):

The eBay seller does not have extended batteries, but fairly good deals on genuine IBM batteries.
