Any info on a 600X 2645-9zu???

#1 Post by Psychowolff » Thu Dec 21, 2006 6:13 pm

I was looking at one, but i can't find any info about it at all really. the IBM/Lenovo site has it listed but all the 'info' is about the generic 600X. I found a PDF about the thinkpad lineup, but they don't list it at all either.

any info would be greatly appreciated!

Lenovo Support

Entering your model into the "product number" box, yields this information:
Product: ThinkPad 600X 2645-9ZU [change]
Operating system: All [change]

Original description: PIII 650MHz (256KB), 256MB RAM, 12.0GB HDD, 13.3 XGA(1024x768) TFT LCD, 24X-10X CD-ROM, Win2000
Is this what you needed?

I got that far but i was hoping to get more from the IBM site...

The ones i looked at say they have either 32 or 64 Mg of SDRAM, not SODIMM. I thought all 600X's came with 64M on the motherboard? Don't they all use SODIMM's to fill out the 576 Max? I want to buy one but it needs the keyboard/screen/Etc and I have that stuff but from a 600E and don't know if they will work or not on the ZU model. I took a keyboard from a 600E and it works great on my 600X.

I know the 5FU and 9FU are more 'desireable' and the ZU has the same options basically except for the video out (but i got one!) Are they completely compatible?? If so, why SO many designations??? almost like 2645- then pick a number and a few letters! LOL

I just don't want to buy one only to find out its useless to me. Also, if anyone has one of these i'd like to know how they like it.

thanks guys and gals!!!

That is my understanding. The 600E systems have 32MB onboard. SDRAM=Synchronous Dynamic RAM. SODIMM=Small Outline Dual In-line Memory Module. They really don't mean the same thing. SDRAM is the type of memory architecture used, whereas SODIMM is what they call the form-factor of the memory module.

Yes, for 600X systems (64MB onboard, plus two 256MB modules).

Keyboard and screen will work, motherboard will not.

Each system from the factory could come with different options: processor, memory, operating system, CDROM vs. DVD, etc. etc. etc... That's mainly the reason why there's so many different type designations. If you have the type number, just plug it into the Lenovo link I provided earlier and you should see the important system specs.

See my .sig below. I like them. Sturdy, almost bulletproof machines, great for general use (web surfing, word processing, etc.). Only "downside" I find with mine is the single USB 1.1 port. Actually, it's the same beef I have with the T23's as well, except twice as much :) .

Oh, yes and... Welcome to thinkpads.com! (I missed the fact that this is your first post here)

Ray;

Thanks for the welcome, and thank you VERY much for the info!

I bought a 600E from a guy but it turned out to be a parts maching only, since I spent a WHOLE 20 bucks on it so i HAD to buy a 600X w/ a 650 CPU (which turned out to be a 450! :-( ) that needed a keyboard and OS. well, that is working good now but after seeing all the cool things you can do.... WELL... i have to have the internal wifi & antenna! I have a 750 CPU to go in it, and i'm looking for a nice selectadockIII...

One thing I don't understand is all the fuss about the lack of USB and PCMCIA cards... besides the ethernet card i'm using they are all open on mine, i want the internal wifi for convienience. What do most use them for that they are so 'valuable'??? But then again, I only use my computers for surfing, email, TV guide, Word. don't do any gaming...

Thanks again Ray!
mike

Generally the problem with the USB 1.1 port is nowdays most peripherals are 2.0. Yes, it's backward compatible, but if you've ever tried to back up your laptop's hard disk drive via an external USB drive, you will appreciate the speed difference that 2.0 gives you. Syncing your iPod player is also much faster when using USB 2.0. Even when plugging in most Flash thumb drives now, I get that silly Windows ballon that reminds me I'm using a high-speed device in a low-speed port.
