T43p Fingerprint Reader

#1 Post by Lazarus » Thu Dec 21, 2006 7:47 pm

Hi Everyone!

I had a "stupid moment" (aka "black out") when buying a T43p (15") on eBay a few weeks ago.
The unit itself arrived just fine, but the add text was so confusing that it took me some time to realize that most of the features I wanted where not included.

By now I equiped it with a WiFi and Bluetooth card on my own, but to install a fingerprint reader will likely require for me to exchange the system board (or won't it?).

Now I did find a fair supply of T43p system boards (again on eBay), but there is NO description of their specs.
All it says they're "working".
No bus speed, no chip set and most certainly no details regarding fingerprint reader or security chip support.

Can anyone tell me where I can find those specs for each system board available for the T43p, so I won't make my next stupid move here?

Thanks in advance

PS: No, just buying a brand new T43p is not an option for me.

Well, if you have already checked tabook for the model number and it doesn't come with an FPR, then you pretty much need a new planar. You can always get a palmrest with the FPR unit but the planar needs to have a connection for it. :)

gagagaga

>tabook<, >planar<, >FPR< could you please explain to me what you're talking about?

I don't repair Thinkpads for a living you know?!

And also, how does your reply help me to figure out what system board has which specs??

TABook = ftp://ftp.software.ibm.com/pc/pcinstitu ... tabook.pdf

Planar = that big PWB (printed wiring board) with the CPU (Central Processing Unit, aka Pentium, aka many more names) and much more on it..

FPR = Finger Print Reader

also, unasked, but needed HMM = Hardward Maintenance Manual
which can be found here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... OME-LENOVO
and follow directions..
