Dead 600x 450hz board - can I upgrade to 650hz Speedstep?
Dead 600x 450hz board - can I upgrade to 650hz Speedstep?
Afternoon all, i've got a 600x 450hz p3, after much headscratching i've come to the conclusion that the on board RAM has died, so i'm looking to replace the board. I've seen 650hz boards available on ebay, is it a straight swap?
PS - if anyone thinks i've diagnosed wrong, please tell me - i'm getting install (XP & 98)failures & BSOD every time, and it won't even boot from a ghosted image, or a known good HD.
PPS - if anyone knows how to replace the on-board RAM, let me know.
thanks all

The processor board and mother board are separate parts, so you wouldn't have to get another processor to replace the motherboard.

Since I don't own a 600X, yet....someone might be able to hop in and indicate whether or not you can diable the onboard ram, like you can on the 600E.
I can't remember off the top of my head if the 600X has the same EZSetup BIOS as the 600/600E.

I was under the impression that they did share the same bios setup, but I don't know for sure.tfflivemb2 wrote:Since I don't own a 600X, yet....someone might be able to hop in and indicate whether or not you can diable the onboard ram, like you can on the 600E.

600/E BIOS
There is a difference between the 600/E and the 600X BIOS. For one, there is no TEST function for the 600X, you have to use PC Doctor. For another, the INITIALIZE function is in a different location at Easy Setup.
