Broke my A30p - now what?

#1 Post by doppelfish » Fri Dec 22, 2006 11:23 am

So, the graphics chip on my trusty old A30p handed in it's resignation letter - it's not /completely/ broken, but it doesn't work right either. Grrr ...
Now, there's two ways I can go from here:
either I find a new systems board for it, and keep the machine around as a backup,
or someone who has an A30p/A31p systems board, but a cracked case around it gets my machine.

Currently, I've got 756MB of RAM in it, and it has a new (third-party) battery which arrived, err, a week before the machine's departure. As an added bonus, I've transplanted a CD-RW/DVD-R drive from a Sony laptop into it (though the original CD-R drive is still availlable).

So, if You own an A30/p or an A31/p, this is the chance to stock up on replacement parts! Feel free to contact me via email or pm. I have absolutely no idea how much money should change hands here, so just come up with what you think is a reasonable amount.

cheers,

A30?

#2 Post by JBuzzard » Fri Dec 22, 2006 12:53 pm

Don't know if it is of interest but I have an 1Ghz A30 with a bright and defect-free 15' SXGA screen, 512MB, and an 80GB drive that I'm going to be posting for sale soon. It works great but I really need to reduce the number of Thinkpads sitting around the house. Hoping to get $250-300. Also hoping to not to have to deal with the scam-factor on eBay (ebay ID is buzzardj)
W520 4276-37U, W520 4282-A61, and X61T 7769-A67 ThinkPads; D20 4155-CTO ThinkStations; plus lots of ThinkCentres

Isn't the graphics on a sub-card for this machine? I have an A30 with a bad mainboard, but what I think is the graphic card (at least, thats what the LCD cable attaches to) seems to be OK. If you are interested in it, let me know.

More experienced A30 guys, feel free to correct me as necessary. :D

It is not worth to change motherboard. I saw ebay ask for $200.
