Thinkpad T43 plug

Hi. I have a question about the T43 plug.

The yellow plug "hole" on the backside of the T43, has a pin inside it. Is this pin + or -? And the outer part, must be the opposite. I need to know this because im going to buy an universal car adapter.

EDIT: I checked the T43 owners handheld thingy.

So the pin in the plug on the back of the laptop is +?

By chance do you have a multimeter, if you do, try poking the powerbrick's DC output and seeing which is which.

No, i dont have one

But if it says the inner part of the ac adapters plug is +, then the pin in the connector on the computer must be + too!

Ok thanks.

So which caradapter should I get? The 70W or the 120W?
120W = 6A between 15-20v.
70W = 3,5A between 15-20v.

Mine needs 16v and 4,5A max.
The 70w is a bit cheaper for me, and thats a +.
Can i get the 70w one?
How long it takes for it to recharge for me doesn't matter. Just want it on in the car all the time while traveling.

16V x 4.5A = 72W

Although the machine would probably work fine with the smaller power supply, you should get the bigger one. The 70W brick might not charge your battery completely or your machine doesn't get enough power to run stable. There is also a change that the adapter overheats when overloaded.

Hm, yeah true..
Its just $15 difference, rather spend that than risking to make the computer unstable.
