I have the Security Chip :-)

#1 Post by kiig » Tue Sep 07, 2004 4:54 pm

Just found out my a31p has the inbuilt Security Chip.... What can I do with it ? I've read about encryption, - secure sign-on using different gizmo's.... is anybody using it ?

My initial thought was to encrypt my disc... just that...

what about performance issues, - I mean is it an on-the-fly encryption..?

any suggestions, - or related links are welcome. Thanx.

and why does it say "Client security software for ESS (Non-TCPA) models" when I try to download the software, - when my IBM support-page indicates my particular model has TCPA inside.. I have found, - and enabled it, - from the Bios.

and what a lot of issues on the IBM support site, - regarding the security software..... ugh... a bit too many posts for me to venture into this....

The page at http://www.research.ibm.com/gsal/tcpa/ has two nice overview papers. The linux software on it is obviously not usable on Windows, but checking out what the example programs do might give you an overview what the chip can do for you.
