anybody have a strange name on the shipping label?

#1 Post by insomniac59 » Tue Dec 26, 2006 8:23 pm

I recently ordered and received (today actually) a new T60. I haven't had a chance to open the box yet (UPS arrived 10 minutes before I had to leave for work) but have a question about the shipping labels on the box.

There were 2 that I can remember off the top of my head. One was smaller and had only my name and address. Then a bigger one that had my name, some stranger's name (Attn: John XXXXX),
then my correct address.

I placed this order through the EPP site during the special "you pay what we pay" sale. No CustServRep helped with the order, so I don't think it's a sales rep's name. Could it be a lenovo rep assigned to my university that the order was routed through?

I called Lenovo/IBM this afternoon to question who this guy was and why he was a co-recipient on my shipping label, and they had no record of his name.

Could it be a label placed on the box by UPS? Is the guy a UPS employee? a Customs agent? Someone who inspected the shipment?

I ordered my T60 last Friday and received it today. After placing the order by phone, and hanging up, the rep sent me an email confirmation addressed to LEN, but my name's Pete. I don't care what they call me as long as they take care of business!

ENJOY! :)

I believe insomniac59 was a well-chosen User ID for yourself.
:P

Just inspect the contents carefully, and check the warranty status. You should be OK.

Well, I use that ID on many forums. It fits because I am almost never asleep in the midnight to 4-5am early morning hours. But I guess you could rationalize other meanings from it.

I hope you find this forum useful. There are a lot of forum members here that like to help others out. There are also many threads here that have covered issues common and uncommon to ThinkPads.

Welcome. :D

BTW, you should not be alone here in the wee hours of the morning. You will find other insomniacs here like yourself as well as a number of users from the other side of the Big Pond for whom it is daytime when it is dark over here.

Thanks for the welcome...I'm sure I'll be haning out here quite often in the next few weeks.

As for my unidentifed ship-to person, I'll chalk it up to some paperwork anomaly.

I'm new to the T60 cult, I just received mine today and am using it right now :)

Where do I check my warranty status?

Thanks.

I ordered a battery for my X60s through the same sale and my shipping label shows my name for both "SHIP TO" and "ATTN TO". If someone at your university placed the order for you, then John XXXXX could be that person. Look up that name in your school's directory to see if it's there.

Yeah same here Attn to: John XXXXXX...

Was reading the return policy , says can be returned only if unopened, but how will one know if it is bad unless opened ?

Also towards the end it reads, products purchased through Lenovo Employee Purchase program are not eligible for return !!.

Dont know what to make out of it, havent opened the box yet fearing if something is bad, might end up living with it.

I think the idea is, after unwrapping the package and realizing that the product is bad (i.e. broken), you can return it for repair or a replacement but not for a full refund. In order to get all your money back, it must be returned unopened, within 21 days I think.

Good to know I'm not the only one with the "John" label.

When are you going to open it? You know you want to... :D

Just confirmed, they say if unopened they will accept a return with a 15% restocking fee. But if opened no return possible.

So once opened your only option is to get repaired, which they might or might not do, if they dont consider it as a fault.

Are you sure about the restocking fee? This is the first time I've heard of it. I've never returned anything to Lenovo, but I've seen many people say Lenovo will give you a full refund if you return the product unopened within 21 days.

The rep i spoke to said, if returned for personal reasons ( screen resolution, bad pixels, you dont like the keyboard , system gets too hot etc.. ) whether OPENED or UNOPENED the restocking fee is the same upto 15%

The would offer a refund only if damaged during shipping, or they ship you wrong parts, less memory etc..

If opened, they might not accept the return at all, because once the software is used some parts of it cannot be accepted back. This would lead to return of uncomplete package and they cannot take it back.
