7K100 for A31p

#1 Post by Seweryn » Wed Dec 27, 2006 5:40 am

Hi,

I am just upgrading the hard drive in my A31p, but I am still not 100% sure if the HDD I've found would work with my machine.
It is 7K100, Model: HTS721010G9AT00, and it is P-ATA version.
What is the difference between the ATA-100 and P-ATA?
Is this HDD recommended for A31p or is there any better / faster HDD than this one on the market for A31p? What would you recommend?

Thanks,

Seweryn

I can't see any reason why a 7K100 would not work. It is pretty much the fastest hard drive you can put in a Thinkpad of any sort that has a P-ATA interface. Incidentally, P-ATA and ATA-100 are pretty much the same thing, except that P-ATA can mean ATA-33, ATA-66 or ATA-100.

The only problem I can see that might happen is that the hard drive's full capacity may not be usable due to BIOS limitations, but someone else who actually has an A31p might be able to tell you for sure.

I have an A31 and I installed a 7k100 with no
problems.
The A31 BIOS ROM is the latest from IBM/Lenovo.
The system feels much snappier and boot time is down by
20%.
Get the drive.
You won't regret it.

Yup, no BIOS problems here either - it has no probs with my 120G Samsung 5400 either.
