Any way to check if you have the Ultralight LCD?

#1 Post by maxxo » Thu Dec 28, 2006 7:39 pm

I recently received my new x60s a few days ago. I ordered it with the Ultralight LCD, but I have reason to believe that it did not come with it.

The x60s box has "1705-CTO" on its side, and AFAIK the Ultralight LCD's are only included with a few 1702-xxx models. The LCD does not seem as bright as I had been reading of in the forums, and the entire notebook w/ the extended battery weighs about 3.5lbs.

Is there any way to verify that my x60s has the Ultralight LCD?

The ultralight LCD should be obviously brighter than other Thinkpad displays, and assuming the balance you used was reasonably accurate, I am pretty sure you don't have an ultralight LCD. My non-ultralight X60s weighs 3.46 lbs with the extended battery and 2.89 lbs with the slim line battery, agreeing perfectly with Lenovo's official figures. The other possibility is that it's really an ultralight LCD but something went wrong in the manufacturing process, making it 0.2 lbs heavier than normal. Either way, Lenovo did something wrong, so you should send it back to them.

Yes, there is -- requires the removal of one screw.

The cover and bezel of the Ultralight LCD are different from the cover and bezel of the regular LCD. Assembled, the two covers are identical. However, remove one screw and you can peek inside that screw hole to see the difference.

Remove the rectangular screw cover from the middle screw on the right or left edge of the LCD cover, and then remove that screw. If inside the hole you see a brass metal piece with threads, then you have the Ultralight LCD. If inside the hole you see nothing (dark) or you see white metal, then you do not have the Ultralight LCD.

Good luck.

Another way to tell is that the Ultralight LCD should have a light leakage as shown in the photo in this thread:

your notebook is not eqiupped with UL. You are correct as far as I know about the 1702-xxx. 3 models are -94u, -h7u, -7cu
