How to tell if your T23 can take an internal wireless?

#1 Post by TonyJZX » Thu Dec 28, 2006 9:50 pm

here is my unit: 2647-2ga

Original description: PIII-M 1.0GHz (512KB), 256MB RAM, 20.0GB HDD, 14.1 XGA(1024x768) TFT LCD, 8x-3.3 DVD-ROM, Modem(MPCI), Ethernet(CDC), Win2000

how do I know if it can accept a wireless?

mine has the four round blanking plugs on the left and right edge of the screen

also can you drop in a 802.11g mini pci card?

I would prefer it if I can keep my ethernet and 56k[/quote]

The T23 uses a combo modem/wireless card so you need to get the right card if you do not want to lose the modem.
All T23's have the round screw covers on the sides of the display housing. Only the wireless ones have the ribbed inserts (antenna covers) on the upper sides of the display housing. If the sides of the display housing are smooth you don't have them.
You can always buy some universal antenna's on ebay and put them under the keyboard.

My understanding of a "universal" antenna is simply one that plugs into the wireless card (typically a U.FL connector) and terminates in a small printed circuit board (the antenna). It can have a mounting bracket attached or just be plain. You can find them on eBay or elsewhere online.

A couple of recent threads have discussed installation of antennas in both the lid and under the keyboard/palmrest:
