Hello all ---
I'm having a bit of a problem creating the recovery media for a TP model T42 machine # 2374....
I have a set from IBM (8 cd's total 1 rescue and recovery and 7 product cd's) - but when I try to create a set using the utility on the thinkpad it only creates 7 total. The rescue and recovery cd and then 6 product recovery cd's. If I try to restore to factory defaults using the set created by the utility I get prompted for cd 7 of 7 of the product recovery cd's and the process aborts. Any ideas as to why the rrmedia utility is not creating the full set? The version of rrmedia is not the original, I upgraded to version 3.10 of the rescue and recovery utility because of this problem but 3.10 did not correct.
Any thought or ideas would be appreciated!
Thanks
Lisa

It looks like you should have made the set before upgrading Rescue and Recovery. I also have a T42, and when I made the set it was 1 rescue and 6 product CD's (IIRC). Unfortunately you can only create the Product Recovery Discs once - that is until you Restore to Factory contents. FYI, you can use a CD for the first Startup disk, and a DVD for the remainder of the Product Recovery CD's.
I believe in leaving the Rescue and Recovery program at the original factory installed version. Too many problems can crop up when upgrading then doing a Restore to Factory contents later.
Rescue and Recovery v3.1 - Considerations
EDIT: If you get to this point and the disc creation program will not let you make another set of Product Recovery Discs, you should hopefully be able to Restore to Factory contents to get this option again.

I am not sure if there is solution to your problem at this point or not. You might be able to uninstall Rescue and Recovery 3.1, then reinstall the original version. This might fix it so that you can make a good set of Product Recovery Discs. Look in C:\IBMTOOLS\APPS\IBMRNR\ for IBMRNR.EXE. Launching this program should reinstall the original version of Rescue and Recovery. If there is an update patch in that directory, that patch should be applied after installing Rescue and Recovery. It is up to you if you want to try this. I am only speculating that it might work.It is recommended that you create Recovery CDs prior to installing any software. If this is done, Restoring to Factory contents using the Recovery CDs will restore both the recovery environment as well as the preloaded version of Rescue and Recovery into Windows.
EDIT: If you get to this point and the disc creation program will not let you make another set of Product Recovery Discs, you should hopefully be able to Restore to Factory contents to get this option again.
