Changing T30 screens..can this be done?

#1 Post by traveller » Sat Dec 30, 2006 9:02 am

Hi all,
I have 2 T30 machines...one is 1400 X 1050 and the other is 1024 X 768.......both are working perfectly with the exception of the screen on the 1400 X 1050 is dead (definite ) .....can i replace this with the 1024 X 768 one and would I have to change the connecting ribbon and also the inverter ?.........any advice appreciated. My reason for wanting to change is the 1400 X 1050 has wireless mini pci and also bluetooth builkt in plus 1gig of memory etc etc.

Kind regards to all for the new year.

yes you need a different cable (around 5 pounds) and a new panel. the inverter should be the same, i'm quite certain on that.

easiest thing would be replacing the whole screen though. they appear on ebay on a regular basis.

There are two different inverter boards for the T30, for 150nit and 200nit LCD. I don't know what will happen if you use the wrong board with your new panel, that's why I would make sure they match.

Many thanks for the replies much appreciated.
Just a query though....If i already have a complete display in working order on the 1024 x 768 which is complete in a working machine why cannot I use the existing cable and inverter that is with it to transfer across to the other one? what other cable would I need ?.
many thanks

Yes, that will work. You just can't use a 1400x1050 cable with a 1024x768 panel and vice versa.

sorry i misread your post. sure, you can just swap the displays.
easiest is probably to exchange the complete display assembly.

Thanks for that guys....so I can fremove the complete display plus cable and inverter and replace in the 1400 X 1050 and all will be well?.......guess as you say it would be easier to change the complete lids over...............

Many thanks for all the help ........the idea of just changing the displays was because the little panel along the bottom shows the wifi signal and also the built in bluetooth signal on the 1400/768 model whereas on the lower display it doesnt.

Regards
Clive

By the same token, if I find a 1400 screen, can I install it on my 1024 T23?

Yes, same procedure. If you change the panel only, you need another video cable. If you can get the complete LCD assembly, it's just plug and play.

I didn't know whether to thank you, or not: I made a self-promise to stop at the upgrades and souping-ups, but, alas, the search for the screen begins! Your fault.

Thanks :-)
