T41 Audio Driver Windows 2003

#1 Post by Frosty » Sat Dec 30, 2006 1:05 pm

Hi, I just got a used ThinkPad T41 and I installed Server 2003 Enterprise Edition trial on it without much problems, but there are no IBM/Lenovo Drivers for Windows 2003, and the XP drivers won't so much as extract under 2003. Is there any way I could force the installer packages to extract? Thanks,

You could probably use a trick I discovered that worked with Windows Vista beta.

Download the driver from Lenovo's site and double-click on it to extract the files. Notice where the files are extracted to, then go to Device Manager and update the Audio driver. Point to the directory the files were extracted to above for the location of the Audio driver. Note that the device may be listed as Unknown in Device Manager since Windows may not know what the hardware is for.

If for some reason you cannot run the downloaded audio file from Lenovo to extract it's files, then you could copy the directory from an XP installation to the Windows 2003 installation. For my T42, the latest audio driver installation files are located in: C:\DRIVERS\WIN\Audio. The original factory installed audio drivers are located in: C:\IBMTOOLS\drivers\AUDIO.

One other possible solution would be to run Windows Update and choose the Custom option. Windows Update may find the audio driver for you.
