When I install SP2 on my T42 it causes problems with wireless networking. I have installed Access Connections 3.30 and the latest driver for the 2200 BG card but I get data corruption during network activity. Downloads will be corrupt, web pages will display strangely due to corrupt page downloads and when I am viewing large images in my web browser they often fail to load completely.
The first time I installed SP2 it took several hours to notice the problems. At first I thought that there were problems with some web servers, but then I noticed that the problem wasn't limited to just a few sites.
I recently received another T42 at work so I am going to try installing SP2 on a clean factory install to see if that will help.

Try uninstalling AC, then reinstall drivers and AC. There are other posts on the subject in thinkpads.com.
I haven't had any problems so far with SP2 on my x31.

It's hard to synthesize all the posts, but for sure the Intel 2100 card is worthless. For sure, the IBM 11a/b/g (Atheros) works flawlessly (including SP2). What I am not sure about is the Intel 2200 card, but if reinstalling the drivers and Access Connections does not work, consider replacing the card. ... JDHurst
I will try uninstalling AC and reinstalling today. I have installed AC and the 2200BG drivers over themselves but perhaps it will behave differently if I remove the software first.
If that doesn't work I should be able to try the IBM A/B/G card at some point. I will probably just order the next thinkpad at work with that wireless card.
I will also try SP2 on a factory fresh Thinkpad hard drive to see if can duplicate the problems. We just received an identical T42 at work yesterday.

I installed SP2 on my T42 2378-DXU (2200BG wlan), but only just yesterday.
I made a Ghost image first (which I do regularily anyway), for an easy roll-back if needed.
I had no issues. I had the wireless 2200BG configured by windows, and it was unaffected.
I just intalled Access Connections 3.3, and that seems to work fine also. I am on a G network with WEP encryption. Download files are not corrupted, pages look fine (I browsed some large images and whatnot too), speed tests are the same, etc ...

X21 (upgrade: 384MB ram 60GB 7200rpm)

One thing I notice with SP2, is that my BT mouse is now active before I move it. I used to have to move my BT mouse to get it to connect (after a reboot).
I had no real intention of using it, though. I don't like to go back.
I Ghost my windows partition weekly, and I copy/back-up my data partitions to my pc as required(daily, in theory).
That is just my method of choice, at the moment.Leon wrote:do you need to make a Ghost image to roll-back? Can't you just go back a restore point (or use ininstall from Control Panel.....it IS listed there)?

Well, I tried SP2 on an R51 and I am seeing the same networking problems that I had on my T42. Terminal Server client aborts with networking errors. I am uninstalling SP2 on that computer right now.
I wonder why I have seen this problem on several different thinkpads and no one else here seems to be having problems. We are running Cisco 1100 access points but I have also had the problem at home with a Microsoft MN700.

there is a remove option
SP2, has a remove option, worked fine for me on an A20, and a home desktop.Leon wrote:do you need to make a Ghost image to roll-back? Can't you just go back a restore point (or use ininstall from Control Panel.....it IS listed there)?
