Replace built-in EVDO Rev 0 w/PCMCIA EVDO Rev A.

#1 Post by dfumento » Tue Jan 02, 2007 8:49 am

I want to replace my Replace built-in EVDO Rev 0 w/PCMCIA EVDO Rev A. with the Verizon Aircard 595. EVDO Rev A. is being released now and is the upgrade of EVDO Rev 0 with somewhat faster download speeds but far faster upload which is useful for webcam usage.

Should I just be able to disconnect the mini-PCI card and use the EVDO Aircard 595 PCMCIA card? Anything else to watch out for?

I suppose you could unplug the card. Perhaps an easier method would be to go into Device Manager and disable all associated Verizon devices there. Do this before installing your new adapter. Look in: Modems, Multifunction adapters, Network adapters, and Ports (my Sierra Wireless card has devices in all these areas).

I do not have the Verizon card, so I can give just general advice.

Would that not also be illegal, or?

The EVDO laws are kind of sketchy.

I don't see how it would be illegal. You can put a Verizon Aircard 595 in any computer that will accept it. It is FCC approved.

I have been waiting to replace my internal Verizon network card with a new Rev A card as well. The new 595 looks nice, but i imagine shortly their will be a new internal one to replace ours. I would rather wait.

You're talking about the Sierra Wireless MC 5725 module. Anyone know when these will be shipping and from whom I might purchase one?

Its only illegal if you get caught, and I think it would be pretty hard to get caught removing your evdo card.

Hello all,

I just installed this card onto one of our T60's and flashed with the newest 'hacked' bios in order for this card to be whitelisted and work upon bootup of the machine.

But I do have question regarding its usage. This will be the first time we're going to use a built-in card. How do I go about activating the card with Verizon? I tried using their SmithMicro VZAcess software, which I download from them, but to no avail.

Is there something I'm missing? If I could avoid using Access Connections, that would be great.

Thank you!

No worries all!

I was able to locate the necessary drivers from Verizon's website.

Thank you though!
