Battery prob. after initial setup of new T42, doesn't charge

#1 Post by Sebbot » Tue Jan 02, 2007 5:26 pm

Hi,

I made the initial setup of my new T42 but I forgot to insert the battery before (manual says battery must be installed during initial setup).

Is this maybe the reason that this did not work:

Last night I tried to charge the battery. T42 was shut down and left power supply unit on, the normal way to charge.
This morning the battery was at 1 percent.

Is it possible that the system and the battery need to get to know first? Did I miss that by not inserting the battery at the initial setup? Can I catch up on this by using any IBM software?

Thanks in advance for some useful hints.

Best
Sebastian
"Is something wrong?" she said. Of course there is!

Not having the battery installed during setup might affect the ability to charge while in Windows. I would not think that it would have any effect on charging while the ThinkPad was turned off. It should still charge while the ThinkPad is turned off.

If you do not have an IBM battery but rather an aftermarket one, that might be a problem. It is also possible the charging circuitry could be damaged on your ThinkPad.

When the computer was off, battery was inserted, and power supply plugged in, did the battery charge indicator light up on the status panel below the LCD? (i.e. the symbol with the battery and the "+" sign)
