USB problems with XP on a 390E

[Cray91]

I just got a Thinkpad 390E. I instaleld XP Pro onto a new HD, b/c the old one was like 2gigs. I have been trying to use USB devices, but that is when I ahve a problem. When I insert the USB device the system freezes. The system will return to normal when the device is removed. The problem is completely repeatable and never changes from time to time.
