so atm no laptop

:( well i have no laptop at the moment and it makes me sad... also my desktop dieeed

the week i had my "Defective" x60s laptop

so i sit here twidling my thumbs for the new one :(

You have no other spare computers to use? Then how did you managed to make this post? :twisted:

What's wrong with your X60s? :?

Buy a cheaper R series thinkpad to spend your time off.

im at home so im using my brothers computer

i thought my lcd back lighting was messed up cause itg was brighter at the bottom of the screen, but apparently that is a feature to the x60s....

No, it's NOT a feature of the X60s, because mine doesn't have the problem you described no matter how hard I look for it. But it's an extremely common problem, so common that people don't consider it to be a problem.

I have learned not to be bothered by minor blemishes like one or two dead pixels, louder than normal fan noise, LCD light leakage, etc. It's a lot of hassle to send the part for repair, and at least several people on this forum have reported that their Thinkpads' problems actually got worse after being "repaired"! Another lesson I've learned is owning just one or even two computers isn't enough. It's very important to have at least one backup computer, both at work and at home.

you're not alone :-(
About 3 weeks ago, my 6 months old X60 died,
it would not turn on and beep 4 times... I had
it returned to IBM/Lenovo, and it seems they
can't get a new motherboard, and there's no
expected time of arrival for a new motherboard.
My laptop has been in service for already 3 weeks,
and nobody knows when it will be fixed. IBM even
offered to send back the laptop to me (not repaired
of course).

I logged a complaint with IBM Global Service,
let's see what happens, they're supposed to
get back to me in 48 hours, they still have
until tomorrow morning.

While the X60 was itself quite well engineered,
I'm thoroughly impressed with the ineffectiveness
of IBM/Lenovo support. The mere fact that they
have no estimated date for getting a replacement
motherboard tells me a lot about a company that
is touting the 'business on demand' model.

I'm working in the financial industry (front office
stuff with clusters busy performing simulation),
and I believe that IBM/Lenovo won't get my euros
from now on, whether personally of professionally.

BTW this is in France, I just hope you get a better
support experience in other areas. And yes, by buying
IBM/Lenovo, I was quite convinced I would get a
world class support. Well. it seems everything changes.

One little thing that might be useful to others:
the hard disk SATA connector is a standard connector,
that means you can connect it to your desktop directly
with no need to use specific adapters. Of course, this
is if you did not use some password settings in the
BIOS (in this case, I hope you did back it up before
the failure). For security purposes, I just prefer to use
tools like truecrypt anyway.

I am kind of surprised you said the above, when in another thread you posted about light leakage with the Ultralight LCD in an X60s. :?

That's because I was misled into believing that such light leakage was normal for the ultralight LCD. amgdoc, who has an ultralight X60s, said he doesn't have such a problem in that same thread.

yay my x60s was delivered to my apt but i am still home for winter break and iced in for the weekend. ㅑill prolly wont see it till monday :(
