Display tearing on T30

#1 Post by robmack » Thu Jan 04, 2007 10:22 am

Hi, I've owned a T30 (2366-91U) for a number of years and have had no problems. Recently, the display will distort; horizontal lines tearing from the edges of windows, etc. will appear on the screen. Tapping lightly on the edge of the LCD panel will sometimes correct this condition. Other times, the screen will blank, reappear and re-blank repeatedly for a minute or so and then restore to normalcy on its own. The blanking symptom is especially evident when scrolling in Word or displaying a video for example. The problems are intermittent and don't seem to relate to system / ambient temperature.

Could this be symptoms of a loose display connector within the Thinkpad? Is it an easy matter to reseat cables in the machine?

Thanks for any advice.

Robert.

Here's the hardware maintenance manual if you haven't already found it:

It's always good to check cables, but the fact that it happens significantly more when watching video makes it seem like a hardware problem. Either way, give it a try. You'll only have to go as far as following the removal steps up to and including the keyboard.
