Several probs with Brand New Z61m

#1 Post by icemokka » Thu Jan 04, 2007 2:50 pm

I've got a brand new Z61m and already configured it manually as good as I can.

Everything is working, all devices are installed correctly but I still have 3 little probs:

- When restarting or shutting down, he halts at the very ending where he should be powering off. Only thing you can do then is force a shutdown by pushing the power button 5 secs
- When he goes into standby mode, I must also push the power button to revive & reboot him. No way to reactivate him normally. I think first 2 points are more or less linked ( i hope so ). Already got latest bios
- Tried the game TrackNations Multiplayer ( free game ), but when launching I get a nice BSOD on the ati driver, so tried downloading latest drivers from the ati site for the X1400 Mobile Radeon. But the driver can't find my gpu. It should work with the standard Catalyst drivers.

To be sure i've got the latest driver/upgrade of everything, I installed System Update 2. But on 4/5 % he always says that he is updating the System Update and that you have to wait until it restarts ( which it does not ). I cannot get past this problem either. I don't use IE7 but I do use Maxthon 1.5.6

I've always been a Thinky fan but I must say that this Z61m isn't quite what i'm used to with my other thinky's. Maybe should have gone for the T60.

Does anybody has any idea's to solve my problems ?

Z61T cannot restart or standby

#2 Post by steve_wch » Thu May 24, 2007 1:59 pm

Hi, I the exact same first 2 problems with Z61T.

When I boot into Safe mode I can restart correctly.

I think it's related to some of the drivers I loaded recently,

Already I make sure all drivers are latest, same problem.

Any help is appreciated.

I have seen the same problem... It only started happening under XP with the latest BIOS... Vista works with no problems...

I have many of these same problems (especially not shutting down), but it only locks up about 1/3 of the time. I have two theories as to what is causing it and will report back either here or in my other thread as to my progress. Tech support is clueless and just a waste of my time.

Question: is your unit a custom installed XP or a factory shipment?

It worked!

#6 Post by steve_wch » Fri May 25, 2007 11:13 am

Greetings,

After several calls with Tech support and numerous search on web,
I was able to make it work at last. Here is a link that fixes my problem:

http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... management

In the hardware property, there are many usb root hub instances (like 6 or 8), I turned off PM on all.

I also saw other people suggest to turn off password/security, wireless network, or hotkey fix, etc... Tried them all, but none of them worked for me, though.

Many thanks,

Steve

Dear Steve, thanks so much for posting this. This workaround also fixed my problem. My z61m now shutsdown, reboot, etc. YEA!!! I owe you one!
