Want to Buy a T40 Battery... What source to use?

#1 Post by TarzanBoy » Fri Jan 05, 2007 11:04 am

The guy I bought my (used) T40 from was less-than-forthcoming about the battery life.

I know this question has been asked before, but the search for me is broken (won't go past more than the first page of results).

1. What kind of battery life should I expect to get out of a T40 with screen brightness set to the lowest setting (and no disc in the optical drive).

2. Where is a decent place (online or not) to get a long-life battery at a fair price/cheap price?

Thanks in advance

I recommend you get the 9 cell battery rather than the 6 cell that came standard with the T40.

On my T41 with a new extended battery, not pounding on the CPU or playing a DVD, with display dimmed, I think I can get over 3 hours or even more.

Sorry I can't help with suggestions where to buy new batteries - my company gets a corporate discount from our vendor.

Is that it? My friends who have Vaio's and Dells get 4+ hours out of their laptops.

My boss gets 3+ out of his after watching a DVD

Hi,

In my T42 I used to get more than 4 hours of work out of a new 6-cell battery with the system well optimized to save battery and with low load. Now I only get 2.5 to 3 hours after 150 cycles and 1.5 years. My T40 behaved almost the same... so I guess you can get roughly 6 hours out of a new 9 cell battery.

how to buy a new IBM 9 cell for the T40/T41

#6 Post by t41user » Fri Jan 05, 2007 4:23 pm

TarzanBoy, on 12/31/06 I sent you a PM with info on how to buy a new, in stock 9 cell for the T40/T41 series from IBM. The message seems still to be in my outbox, which I think means you have not read it or checked your inbox. (Perhaps it does not matter anyway if you are looking for a used battery.)

I do not know whether it is still difficult to find an in stock, brand new, IBM authorized 9 cell battery for the T40/T41 series for sale that is definitely NOT on the SONY recall list, but it sure was difficult a month or two ago - as I tried to indicate here:
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=33515

As a result of my inquires about this matter, I have lost virtually all belief in Lenovo competence and credibility. IBM had the batteries I was looking for in stock all along, despite Lenovo's repeated claims to the contrary. (It turned out, in the case of my searches at least, that I just needed to call the right IBM department, at which point I ordered my new battery in one minute and found it at my door step the next day. In contrast, my many calls to many Lenovo departments either went unanswered or found assurances that the battery I was looking for was not available or on back order.) I do not know what the relationship(s) is/are between IBM and Lenovo, but they seem not to work well in a way that bodes well for how good thinkpad service used to be as regards IBM, and how bad thinkpad service has become as regards Lenovo.

If anyone wants more info, feel free to send me a PM.
