Memory recommendation
Any cheap/good make, memory recommendation for Thinkpad T60 (PC2-5300) ?

Re: Memory recommendation
I've been shopping for DDR2 laptop memory in the last few days, and what I've found is not surprising; since computer memory trades as a commodity, there isn't a whole lot of difference in price if you are looking at mainstream lines as opposed to some of the "designer" models that I'm presuming you wouldn't buy.ryengineer wrote:Any cheap/good make, memory recommendation for Thinkpad T60 (PC2-5300) ?
The 1gb sticks, which are the most competitive right now, seem to range from about $85 or $90 (sometimes after rebate) to about $110. These are USA online prices and may not represent the prices where you are located if you are outside the USA.
I suggest that you go to Newegg.com and look at what they have to offer. This will give you an idea of what is out there, plus you can read the reader reviews to get an idea of what might work best for you. Pay particular attention to comments from people who state that they own the same type of machine as you do (a T60) as there might be compatibility issues with a particular memory brand or type that would tell you to steer clear.
You don't have to buy from Newegg and in fact once you figure out which brands interest you, then do a pricegrabber to see if there are other reputable merchants out there who have better prices for what you want.

Re: Memory recommendation
Even if I could save a dollar or two elsewhere, I would still order from Newegg because they are the most reliable and ship very fast.Ken Fox wrote:You don't have to buy from Newegg and in fact once you figure out which brands interest you, then do a pricegrabber to see if there are other reputable merchants out there who have better prices for what you want.

Yeah, but I've had very good service from a few other dealers, including Zipzoomfly.com, mwave.com, pcnation, and a couple others I've forgotten. Not to knock Newegg, but they they aren't the only good supplier out there.pianowizard wrote:Even if I could save a dollar or two elsewhere, I would still order from Newegg because they are the most reliable and ship very fast.Ken Fox wrote:You don't have to buy from Newegg and in fact once you figure out which brands interest you, then do a pricegrabber to see if there are other reputable merchants out there who have better prices for what you want.
