Audio driver installation after fresh install
Audio driver installation after fresh install
I have a fresh version of Windows XP Pro SP2 installed on my new T60P. I am getting the error about the HDA driver not being installed. I have searched these forums and found out that the Windows patch 888111 needs to be installed before I can install the Lenovo audio driver they provide.
I have installed the Windows 888111 patch and still receiving the error. I tried using the software installer to install the audio driver that extracted into the default C:\DRIVERS folder. I do not see the audio driver in the software installer. I do see the Windows HDA though, which is already installed.
I am not able to get audio working and it is driving me insane. Can anyone please help me?

Have you tried using the Software Installer application?
You can find it here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... ZKMCT.html
Hope this helps!

If you don't already have it here is the Lenovo url to download a number of common microsoft patches including the one you need for HDA. I have installed this patch followed by the audio driver with no problems encountered. Be sure to read the installation instructions for the patch.

Yes I did. Thanks.bigbear2007 wrote:You down the patch from the Lenovo website, right ?
I downloaded and installed these patches. Then I ran the audio driver setup utility again. I am still getting the HDA driver not found error though =\steveg47 wrote:If you don't already have it here is the Lenovo url to download a number of common microsoft patches including the one you need for HDA. Thanks for your help everyone!
Ran it manually and it installed sucessfully, but I do not see it in Add/Remove Programs.steveg47 wrote:Thought so. Try this: Browse to the folder C:\DRIVERS\WXP\OSFIXES\WXPUP\OSDC01WW\XPSP2
and run 888111US.exe in that folder. This will install the HDA patch manually and should then allow you to install the audio driver.
The only other thing I can think of is that you may not be logged in with Administrator rights.
Also check out this MS knowledgebase article particularly toward the end where it tells u how to uninstall the hda by removing a registry entry.

I checked my user and he is in the Administrators group.
I will take a look at that article, thanks.
Ok. I found and removed the registry entry for the KB888111 update. I then ran the update manually and rebooted. It is now showing in Add/Remove Programs (yay!).
I tried running the Audio driver set up program again from Lenovo and it is still giving me the same error: "The HDA Audio bus driver is required and not found."
Seems like we're getting a step closer at least.
Thanks again for helping!

Last suggestion then I have to run : See if there is an entry in the device manager under system devices called "Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio". Try updating the driver from there and/or deleting it and trying the 888111 install again.
Good luck

Good news! While in Device Manager I saw a PCI Device that seemed to not be installed correctly, first time I've ever seen it. I updated driver on it and pointed it to one of the sub directories in the Audio drivers provided by Lenovo. It found the sound card and installed the drivers. Rebooted and I can now hear soundsteveg47 wrote:Last suggestion then I have to run : See if there is an entry in the device manager under system devices called "Microsoft UAA Bus Driver for High Definition Audio". Now to figure out why the quick mute button on the keyboard isn't working correctly.
Thanks for all your help!

I had similar problem but always had audio, when I was troubleshooting a modem issue, I did the uninstall and reinstall and a "bunch of other things" I can't all recall, then tried loading the 888111 and it finally did so successfully - I would hazard to say it is a finicky program.
I used Belarc Advisor which is great at listing every software licence, update & hardware etc in your computer, free download with no glitches.
Still trying to fix the modem.
