512 MB by slot on 600Es and Xs : Is that possible ?

Older ThinkPads.. from the 600, the 7xx, the iSeries, 300, 500, the Transnote and, of course, the 701

512 MB by slot on 600Es and Xs : Is that possible ?

#1 Post by WarMachine » Sun Jan 07, 2007 12:58 pm

Hi, :)

We all want the best for our TP600, don't we ?

So, wouldn't it be nice to upgrade the memory to the max the chipset can handle.

An the 440 of the 600E can in theory accept 1 GB (Stop me if I'm wrong).

It appears that it exist memory modules that are double face double height.

If we could find to 512 MB modules of this type, we should be able to have 1 GB + 32 MB for the 600E, and 1GB + 64 MB for the X.

Do you think it's possible ?

Thx for your answers. :)

I would say no, because atleast with the 600 and 600E, you would need PC100 or PC66 ram, and there aren't any 512mb PC100/66 sticks.

For the 600X....not sure....I wouldn't mind tring it with 512mb PC133 LOW DENSITY sticks....but I don't have any.

Do such modules even exist? So, they should have 16 chips on each side?

There are no such chips out there. 256 MB is the maximum size you can get to use with a 600E or 600X. If there were such chips, we would know about it. There might be a 512 MB PC133 high density chip out there, but I have not seen one, but that would not work in a 600 because they can only fully use low density ram chips.
I have finally rejoined the dark side.

Yes there is, and it's what the T23 (for example) uses.
