IBM X40 RAM Upgrade Question, and some others.

#1 Post by sk33 » Thu Sep 09, 2004 10:14 pm

ok.

First and foremost, I got this model: http://www5.pc.ibm.com/us/products.nsf/ ... p/_23719EU

I'd like to upgrade the RAM, but I can't tell how many slots I have. I have 512, but I don't know if that's soldered in, or if it's 1 512 chip with another slot open or 256 soldered in with a 256 ram chip in there.... I want to buy another 512, but I basically don't know if that's possible. Maybe somebody can tell me?

Besides that I'm loving it so far. It seems to get dirty easily though.

The 512 you have is soldered onto the board.
So you have 1 open slot that can handled a 1 gig or less stick
The 512 you are thinking of will work just fine.

in that case, how is the max 1.28 GB ? If I can add a GB.... so wouldn't that be 1.5GB?

Machines that are ordered with 256 have max 1.2GB
Machines with 512 have a max 1.5GB

Guess IBM doesn't know what they're talking about, because there's no stick in there. :)
