Intel 3945ABG Connection Problems

#1 Post by rscosworth » Mon Jan 08, 2007 4:45 pm

Guys,

My T60 is experiancing some problems.

I am running the latest driver and using windows connection settings but it looses connection to my router every 30mins or so and needs a reboot to resolve.

It always says its connected and excellent but when pinging it will no longer respond.

When running a continuous ping, it will stop pinging around 30mins after starting.

Anyone any ideas? I know its not the router as my z60m and t42 work flawlessly with it.

Cheers

Here is Intel's support page for the 3945. In particular, check out the link regarding PSP (Power Save Polling).

I have the exact same problem ... I did see the link GomJabbar has posted, but I don't see any setting in the 'Power Mangement' tab (Start-->Settings-->Network Connections--> Right click and choose properties on Wireless Networl Connection) ... where do I uncheck the PSP polling feature?

I am running WinXP pro SP2 with latest drivers and BIOS.

You probably need to be logged in as Administrator to see those settings from Network Connections (right now, I am not logged in using an administrator account, and I don't see them either). It may also have to do with which services you have running. For instance, you may need to have the Wireless Zero Configuration service Started (I have the WZC service Stopped and Disabled in my setup).

If you use Access Connections, you can change these settings by editing your Wireless Profile. Choose the Wireless Settings tab, and under item 5. Advanced configuration: > Settings... > is the Power save mode drop-down menu.

It doesn't seem to work - my will occasionally refuse to connect to the internet (not 30 mins as the OP posted, sometimes it is 3min, sometimes it is after 5+ hours). I set the power to maximm in acess connections and it doesn't seem to work (am using AC 4.21). I also do not see the PSP polling option even if I log in as the Admin ... does anyone have a solution for this?

You should see an option for "power saving". You want to disable that.

Note - I ended up giving up on the 3945ABG and replacing it with the IBM a/b/g atheros card. Seems to work lots better...

I am thinking of doing the same - my X31 gets much better signal strength (with IBM a/b/g) compared to my T60. Once I get some $$s and free time, I'll go for it.
