My Z61P is finally shipping to me.

#1 Post by frankrh » Mon Jan 08, 2007 10:04 pm

I ordered my Z61p on Oct 30th 2006, and it is shipping to me after 2 month waiting. Hopefully there is not problem when it is shipped to me.

We ordered 2 x Z60p (9450A24) and 3 x T60p (2623A11) on the 30th of November and have been given a revised delivery date of the 18th of Jan. Will let you know if that date changes.

Has anyone been given a reliable reason as to the shipping delays that appears to be global?

No, no confirmed reason. Think I read it was the screens but not sure.
I ordered dec 7th and my dealer says confirmed delivery jan 16th. Hopefully this is true.

After reading about every post in this forum I'm really excited about this new computer of mine.

It will be my first thinkpad after a couple of Dells so I really want something more sturdy, not so plastic - if you know what I mean...

I had the same problem. Mine Finally shipped Saturday and should be in my hands on Thursday (Assuming Customs releases it in time). The reason I was told for the long delay was due to a shortage of shells for the Z61p. Don't know if that affected other Z series laptops.

I ordered a Z61p back in November and have so far been promised delivery on severel dates. Latest it have been changed every single time and currently it is pending delivery in 7 days.

I have given up - I wont recommend Lenovo to anyone that cant wait 3 months for the machine.

Denmark huh!
That means you and I probably should have the same shipping time...which would mean I have to wait a bit longer than you...dammit :(

The one good thing is that I don't have any time limit but curiosity is killing me by now.

It came today. Nice machine. A little thicker than the T41p I currently use, but still slimmer than my father-in-law's Dell machine.

Well surprise surprise, the Z61p's due today (18th) didn't arrive.

I've been given a possible date of the 31st of Jan but I'm not hopeful.

But for some reason this model 9450A24 are really popular here in Australia.

Most online stores that have online stock tracking are showing anywhere between 11 - 15 preordered items for this exact model.

Unfortunately down here our ThinkPad range is severely limited and we still dont have the 15.4" T60's. :(

Tell us what you like and dis-like.

Is it what you expected ( be honest ).

Ok, I'll give it a go:

pros:

- It's simply a nice computer. Well built, silent, good design. I come from owning a couple of dells so its no surprise that I like this one. there is just no way to compare the two.
- Speed. It is simply lightningfast. Startup takes a while but once running it really beat the crap out of any computer I've used so far. That said...I haven't used a C2D before.
- The amount of applications I can have opened at the same time and actually see and edit is nice with this screen.
- I haven't had time to really test all apps but the thinkvantage centre seems to be really good in the sense that almost all environment configuration/setup is made from there. And more.

cons:
- It's a real drag having to wait over five-six week for a laptop. Especially if your're so eager as I am ;)
- Startup time. I expected a bit speedier boot. Guess security handling is somewhat guilty here. I activated fingerprint reader. But it's acceptable since usually I do this twice a day.
- Weight. Actually I expected it to be this heavy but I thought I could mention it anyways because it IS a factor. It's a choice I made. Don't want to tax on capability :)
- The 1920x1200 is a bit hard on your eyes. I asked for it but just have to admit it. I'll try the 125dpi, but how I do that I haven't figured out yet...anyone?
- Why, why, why are the ctrl-button and the fn-button on the wrong place. They have swiched place. I'm sooo used to my old keyboard so this will take some time. Excellent keyboard otherwise :) and It's just a matter of time before I will find it if someone woke me up in the middle of the night.

All in all I'm more than satisfied and cannot see any reason for anyone to swap this one. Maybe if they made this one with a 1600x1050 screen I would be even more happy.

Right-click on the desktop area --> "Properties" --> "Settings" --> "Advanced" --> "DPI setting" menu.

Thinkpad keyboards have always been like that.

Which is why Lenovo is one of the few if not only manufacturer that still makes 15.4" WUXGA laptops. I have a two-year-old Dell Inspiron 6000 with such a screen, and agree it strains my eyes. Realizing WUXGA makes things too small on a 15.4" screen, Dell now offer WUXGA only for 17" laptops.

Its here!!!

After 8 weeks of waiting. I can say its worth the wait. just removing some of the bloatware so it loads a little faster.

Cheers
Pat.

I was so-so on my new z61p -- until I dropped it this evening after exactly a week of having it. :(

I tripped on the power cord and pulled it from the top of the dining room table, flat onto a hardwood floor - about a 4 foot, unbroken fall.

It bounced, with bang.

After I remembered to start breathing (at the same time I remembered I'd paid for CompleteCare accidental damage coverage), I picked it up. I found that the screen flipped closed when it hit, and that the machine went to sleep. I crossed my fingers, flipped it open, and hit the power button. :help:

It woke up exactly as it should, and the active protection appears to have kept the HDD running perfectly after the jolt. Unlike my wife's Dell, which sprayed keys and case parts and screws across the room after a similar fall from a lower table, the z61p is still as stiff as ever, and near as I can tell not a single thing is out of place, period. PC Doctor says it is fully healthy, so I assume those TV ads where the guy drops the active protection thinkpad are true.

Now, that said, please don't try this at home with your Z series, as results may vary and I'm happy to consider myself incredibly lucky. :BAAAD!:
