Fan Error Need Help Soon
I have a 2373-Q1U, 15" T42p. The computer is giving me a fan error on boot up. I looked at the support pages and they instructed that the first step is to replace the CMOS battery so I picked up a CR2025 battery to replace it with. The problem however is that the support pages do no show how to replace this battery. There are instructional videos available but the are for the 14.1" thinkpads only and when I opened the keyboard bay as they showed the battery could not be found.
Basically if any one know where the CMOS battery is in the 15" model please let me know ASAP. Thanks.

Okay I found out I actually needed a 2032 and also found a manual to find the battery. Replaced the battery and unfortunatly I am still getting the fan error. Should I go ahead and order a new fan assembly or should I just send the lappy in for service?

If it was me, I would probably order the fan and replace it myself. If your ThinkPad is still under warranty, you may want to send it in for service. If you do decide to send it in, try and find out the reputation of the service center. According to some reports by forum members here, not all service centers have not been doing quality repairs.

I do not think that's a CMOS error issue.
I have the same problem on a T42p and yes, "bumpbing" the unit or switching it off & on again "solves it" for a while.
Its either your fan is bad or the sensor has gone bye bye.
If its still under warranty, send it in. If not, try to replace the fan ..
If the sensor is bad, then I got no clue.

The sensor is located on the motherboard right? If so then I am thinking a new system board and fan assembly might be the order of the day. Since it is under warranty, I would send it in.
Question:
Can the owner of the laptop pick which service center it goes to?
