Slow shutdown question.

#1 Post by baehrlich » Wed Jan 10, 2007 12:52 pm

My T60 seem to take an unusually long time to shut down. Any ideas of things to check?
Thanks

I would look at what's running at shutdown. It would likely be a service that is resisting being stopped or an app that doesn't want to close or a combination of both.

While you're waiting for it to shut down try hitting <Ctrl><Alt><Del> to see if the task manager pops up with the name of the problem service/app to ask if you want to force the END TASK.
T'Pad 600e, 770x, A20p, A21p, A30p, A31p (2653-H3U), T43p (2668-Q2U) & T60p (2623-DDU)...it's an addiction.

Mine is pretty slow too...it gets to the blue shutdown screen and sits there for a bit. A minor inconvenience I guess...not sure what it is though.
Peace,

Take a look at the following link.

FTR, I have been using the UPHClean service for some time. It's not perfect, but I believe it helps.

I'll look into that...though I'm thinking it's a piece of Lenovo software, as I have the same programs on my T60 as I had on my old desktop, but the desktop shut down quicker. I guess it's really only a problem because sometimes I forget and shut the lid before it finishes, which puts it to sleep, until I open it, at which point it resumes shutdown before I can turn it back on.

Like I said, not a big deal, just a minor annoyance. At any rate, I'll try what you suggested. You're last suggestion worked.
Peace,
Ryan

Run it through BootVis as well, UPHClean doesn't catch certain processes that slow both shutdown and startup. A registry scrub and a good check through the msconfig process list will get the job done better.

Pardon my ignorance, but what is BootVis?
The other program above seems to help, but it could just be my hopeful imagination.
