T41p and docking station, speaker question.

#1 Post by dc81 » Wed Jan 10, 2007 3:24 pm

I have a T41p with a docking station, but when I plug in my speakers into the docking station, my laptop speakers still work. Is there a way to disable the laptop speakers when using the docking station?

You can use the volume control buttons on the keyboard (above the F4 key). If you use the lower volume button to bring the volume to minimum, it will essentially silence the internal speakers, but not affect the speakers for the docking station. Note: if you press the mute button it will silence the ThinkPad speakers as well as the speakers for the docking station.

Another method is to plug a dummy plug into the headphone jack of the ThinkPad to silence the internal speakers on the ThinkPad.

So just to clarify, there isn't a setting somewhere that would allow to disable the laptop speakers? Also, if I lower the volume as stated above, wouldn't that also effect my speakers connected through my docking station?

Thanks,
