acceptable HD operating temps?

#1 Post by CDN_Z60m » Wed Jan 10, 2007 10:43 pm

I leave my window open for the fresh air sometimes and when its cold out, or I haven't been home for a while, MobileMeter informs me that my HD temp is around 14*C when booting up, basically the ambient daytime outside temperature.

Is this too cold a temperature? Or is this within the acceptable range of operating temps? Should I move the laptop to a warmer room for about half an hour prior to powering up? I notice that when booting up in these temperatures there is the faintest of buzzing sounds that goes away once the computer warms up, or if I tilt it backwards about 2". What could that be?

Thanks

A laptop is fine starting as low as 10 degrees (and probably lower, but I don't recall the spec.). 14 degrees is most certainly plenty warm for a laptop.

That said, if the laptop is frozen (in the trunk of a car in sub-zero temperatures) it may not start or may groan when starting. That is not a good thing to do. Let it warm up.

Whatever your noise is, it is not a temperature problem (although temperature may exacerbate the noise).
