What is this folder and question about battery.

#1 Post by PhaseShiftDown » Thu Jan 11, 2007 2:42 am

Hi guys,

I've recently purchased an used T40 with SXGA screen, 1.5GHz, Mobility 9000 32mb, 40G HDD, 2915ABG wireless card and Gigabit Ethernet. Being my first laptop purchase, I must say that the build quality of this unit is great!.. and I'm quickly hooked on using trackpoint!..

Anyway, I have this folder in main C Drive, called 5f4hg1kagj2j31...etc cant remember the exact name, and inside there is a I386 folder that I cant seems access or delete? When I try to access it, it gives me the message "access denied" and this is a non-hidden folder. Is this normal? There was another similar folder with a log file in it, but I was able to delete it. But just not this one.

Also, my battery seems to drain really fast. It would drain to about 50%, then it would suddenly drop to 2% and the machine would report that the battery is critical and goes into standby mode. Is this because the battery is about to die?

Sorry about the lengthy rambling, any help will be greatly appreciated. :) Thanks guys

The folder in your C: drive is probably left over from a Windows update. They tend to have scrambled names like that. Have you been restarting the machine? It seems like they go away after being installed automatically.

As to the battery- there should be a battery gauge reset button within power manager. See if that helps.

I wouldn't alter the folder that has i386 in it.

For the battery issue, make sure you have the latest version of Power Manager and recalibrate it; if you can't recalibrate it, you can drain it to 3%-5% and then charge it back up to full which gets you pretty much the same effect. :)
