Access Connections installation language

#1 Post by jarkko » Fri Jan 12, 2007 10:43 am

I just downloaded the new, 4.23 version of Access Connections, and I'm almost ready to throw my TP out of the window.

How the heck can I change the installation language of the Access Connections installer? What ever I do, it just allways try's to install AC in finnish language, even if I change every last setting I can find in Control Panel in WinXP regarding to language to english. Xp is english version, every other ThinkVantage software is in english. The AC 4.21 already installed is in english. How does the new version know that I live in finland, and I speak finnish?

This is really, really stupid from Lenovo that user cannot choose the installation language himself. It can't be that hard to make such a feature.

I thought AC used the regional settings found in the control panel, but if you are sure that you changed all of them and it still install in finnish i don't know why. Anyway you can choose the installation language during the installation as described in the file 79cn76ww.txt.

Below is what described in the text file:

4. Type the following command line.

Setup.exe -uilangid 0x0409 (US English)
0x0404 (Traditional Chinese)
0x0804 (Simplified Chinese)
0x0406 (Danish)
0x0407 (German)
0x0c0a (Spanish)
0x040b (Finish)
0x040c (French)
0x0410 (Italian)
0x0411 (Japanese)
0x0412 (Korean)
0x0413 (Netherlands)
0x0414 (Norwegian)
0x041d (Swedish)
0x0416 (Brazilian Portuguese)

In addition if you already installed AC with the wrong language (as i did) and want to change the language you can add a key to the registry. Use regedit and create a new DWORD value under "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Lenovo\Access Connections\Install". The name of the new DWORD key should be "OverrideDefaultLangID" and the value according to the table above for the language you want to use.

So actually in this case Lenovo for once figured it's a good idea to be able to override the language and not force the same as the windows regional settings.

I just noticed that if you do unattended installation, the AC follows the language of the already installed version.

But this info you just told me is nice to know, thanks!

Same Problem

#4 Post by winch » Sat Jan 13, 2007 10:41 am

Hey guys,

I'm running into the same problem except this is with the Fingerprint Reader Software and a few other ThinkVantage software, but not all of them.

I tried to put in a new registry key but I can't find the fingerprint software in the registry (not as simple as the AC).

I also remember at some point seeing the unnattended installation option somewhere but can't remember where. Anyone can help me out with this?

Winch

P.S. Oh and you're right, I am really tempted to throw my TP out the window...

Regarding the fingerprint software the only option i found is to do the change described in the thread below:

http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?p=168621

By doing what described here the language where you selected to remove the value will no longer be displayed in the control panel/reginal settings as an optional language. Your current selected language under regional setting will be shown as blank, but if you chose the correct language before doing this change it should work fine. If you want to change it back it's just to add the value again. I been running like this for the fingerprint sw for a long time now without any problems. Not the best way to change the language for the fingerprint sw, but the only solution i found.

I managed to get all the IBM/Lenovo sw English even if the system settings is different so it's possible, but there is no solution that work for all of them. Some require registry change, other change of .ini files before installation and some to copy some files after the installation.
