Buy a S-Video cable, for the audio, buy a RCA-3.5" jack
Connect all the cables, set your TV to receive S-video signal, then go to Display Properties on XP, select Advanced, then on the Screens tab, click the red button to activate the TV. To watch the movie you should click an icon with a screen on it to set it a the main monitor, video would not display on the LCD only on the TV.

Good luck

For the video cable, you probably want something like this (I use a similar cable).
6-Ft. Cables To Go 27964 Bi-Directional S-Video to RCA Cable $19.99

For the audio, you probably want something like this.
Phoenix Gold® Bronze 300 Series 5-Ft. 3.5mm to RCA Cable $14.95

Depending upon your setup, you may also need this.
Philips® RCA PH62103 2-Female to 1-Male Y-Adapter $3.95

EDIT: Here is a thread that explains the procedure.

EDIT2: If your TV supports S-Video in, you can use the following cable in place of the first one above.
Recoton (DVD-476) 6-Ft. S-Video Cable $14.95

One more thing... I have a TV that has the 9-pin VGA input jack. I can get the laptop and TV to mate by using a 9-pin VGA to 9-pin VGA cable while using the aforementioned 3.5mm/1/8" headphone jack to RCA cable for audio.

At least in my case, the picture quality was superior using the VGA output from the laptop(the one for the external monitor) versus the S-video option.
