R40 battery question

#1 Post by R40-User » Sun Jan 14, 2007 3:37 pm

My original R40 battery finally died and I bought a new one on eBay. The new one works well in terms of battery life, but I am experiencing the following problem: Occasionally, when I move the laptop around while running on batter power, it shuts down suddenly and completely and I have to re-boot. Not all the time, but enough to make it very annoying. This does NOT happen when running on A/C power.

Any thoughts on what the problem might be? I am wondering if the battery connections are not tight enough or are overly senstive and somehow become unseated upon small movements.

Thanks for your help.

Bought it on eBay huh? Did the seller make any statement about the battery being a refurb or imitation? Sounds like that to me.

You have two choices.

1. Inspect the contacts very closely on the battery and the laptop. The battery will have slotted connectors and the laptop will have a blade connector that fits into the slot on the battery. The slotted connectors on the battery must touch each other so that the blade fits tightly when the battery is inserted. Take a piece of heavy printer paper or very thin cardboard (the thickness of a playing card) and cut a small strip about the size of the connector. You're going to moisten the paper/cardboard with isopropyl alcohol and lightly insert the paper between the contacts on the battery. Repeat several times to clean the contacts.

2. Get a new battery.
