The R series is IBM's consumer line of notebooks. They are bigger and heavier than the T series, and may not have as powerful options for processors, video cards, and screens.

The T series are IBM's business class notebooks. They are lighter than the R series because they are made of lightweight composites and magnesium alloys. The 'p' series T machines often have the most recent and most powerful features and are oriented towards the workstation market.
